Hi there
Just joined and thought I would give a quick introduction.
I have two hermies, Sid and Frake, recently brought. I had a cold water fish tank, and the fish caught the evil slime disease, heart broken I decided that I did not want any more fish and had been eyeing up hermies in the petshop, so I finaly gave in and got two of them (along with the tank stuff they needed).
I kept flidder crabs before, which was great! The male died quite quickly, we went on holiday and the father in law removed the cast thinking that the male had died, but the female (Bitsy) lived for almost 3 years which is quite amazing from what I have found on the internet. Her death was partly my fault, I changed her water and that stressed her out to much (it was smelly water, but its what she liked).
As well as Sid and Frake and have a guppy collective, indian stick insects, a fire bellied newt (Albert, who is 9 years old), GALS and a hogg nosed snake (Kartush aka hiss head or grumpy head) oh and two cats.
Sid and Frake seem to be settling in nicely, both totaly different personalities and PP crabs. Sid is very out going, if I pick him he up almost falls out of his shell to get to me, and crawls around quite happly. He nipped me once, and instantly let go again. He is very out going and quite tame.
Frake on the other hand started out well, within 12 hours he had changed shells and then 12 hours later changed back to his old shell! But he is so scared, when he nipped me he held on for dear life!! He will come out of his shell, but it takes a while and he keeps withdrawing. He is also missing a leg, so I wonder if he was mistreated?
But I think they are wonderfull creatures, very charming and interesting.. I look forward to many years of sharing my home with them.
